Goodreads Event Created

Published October 1, 2015 by Ashley Townsend

I just created the Chasing Shadows 1-Year celebration on Goodreads for people to join! (I have no idea why I haven’t thought to add it for previous events) I sent out invites to all my Goodreads friends, but anyone can join by following the link below, and I think you should be able to invite your friends, as well, or at least share the link with them (if you share via a blog post, give me a pingback or email me the link at ashleytownsend.author@yahoo.com). The celebration has been getting tons of attention on social media, especially Twitter and Pinterest. I think I have a feeling who the Most Social Hooder Grand Prize is going to be, but keep using #TeamHood and tagging @TownsendTales on social media to gain entries toward both prizes (re-blogging this post counts! Just leave the link and your name in the comments below). And stop by here on October 4th for the grand celebration kick-off and to enter the Rafflectoper, which you can enter every day until October 16th.

Until next time, Team Hood!

A GIF from Me to You…

Published October 19, 2014 by Ashley Townsend

Get it? Because they’re gifs, but close to gifts. . . Never mind.

Anywho, the Chasing Shadows Twitter Release Party yesterday went so quickly (I barely kept up with my replies!) that I didn’t get to use all the fun and emotional gifs that I had planned. So I figured I’d share them with you and tell you what sort of question I was anticipating to use them for. And you can check out my replies and answers on my Twitter page @TownsendTales. Enjoy!

Do you regret killing off any of your characters in “Chasing Shadows”?

Short answer: No. They had it coming or it served a purpose.

A Time to Die Giveaway and Blog Hop

Published September 3, 2014 by Ashley Townsend

Hey all! My author friend and dance buddy Nadine Brandes is kicking off a blog hop in celebration of being one day closer to the upcoming release of her fantastic dystopian thriller “A Time to Die.” *cue the flurry of applause and dead-faints of excitement* The blog hop where I answer Nadine’s prompt “If you had one year left to live” will be live on my blog on September 26th, so put it on your calendars! But for now, Nadine has her own answers and an Amazon giveaway on her blog to whet your bookish appetites.

To enter the giveaway, you’re going to have to put in a little effort and follow the link below to Nadine’s original post at http://nadinebrandes.com/2014/09/03/if-i-had-one-year-left-to-live-a-time-to-die-blog-tour/

If I had one year left to live…

…I might stop writing.

*Gasp*

My heart shreds into confetti at the very idea, but one year isn’t very long. I’ve thought quite hard over this concept. Let me explain, for a moment, why I’m even blogging on it.

Today I’m kicking off the blog hop to promote my book, A Time to Die. Over twenty bloggers will be joining this hop to answer the prompt, “If I Had One Year Left to Live, I Would…” Hopefully this also prompts you to think about what you’d do with one year left to live.

Once the question enters your mind, it gets pretty sticky. Trust me, I know. I think about it all the time.

You Have One Year

In order to answer this question, I need to step back and examine what’s important, get to the nitty-gritty. Yes, writing is important because it’s my passion, but what is even more worthy of my complete devotion and sacrifice of time? Of course, it’s my Savior, Jesus Christ and I would fill my last year with things, actions, and choices that I believe He calls me to. But, since I’m playing crystal ball and trying to predict my future actions,  here are some things I would do with one year left:

Either stop writing, or speed-write.

Don’t take this the wrong way. I do not want to stop writing. Writing is my passion. BUT, if I knew for sure that I would die one year from today, I would really ask myself how much time I could devote to writing without sacrificing time better spent elsewhere.

Another thought that crossed my mind is committing some hard-core writing months (about three or four) to completing the Out of Time series. For the sake of my readers (yes, for you!) If I couldn’t finish it in that time, I’d start looking for authors who could finish it/polish it for me.

I would go to Russia.

Going to Russia and interacting with the people there has been a long-term passion God has placed on both my and my husband’s heart. It’s a long story that I won’t get into now, but we would travel there to live for the majority of my last year. Hey, maybe I could keep writing while there! ;)

I would write intentional letters.

Words are my passion. I would make sure I had a stack of letters to be given to each person I love after I passed on, hopefully encouraging them to pursue life and God full-speed and to REJOICE at my joining Christ in heaven.

I would visit my relatives.

I grew up away from most of my relatives so I didn’t build the relationships with some of them that I would have liked. I would take at least two weeks to a month and road trip (with the hubby, of course!) around America, visiting them, having intentional quality time with them, and — with some — trying one last time to share the importance of Christ.

I would pray and fast more.

This is one of those things I already try to do, but I’m a spiritual wimp. Praying is the more tough side of relationship with Christ for me. I would love to devote hours — and I mean carpetburns-on-the-knees hours — to praying, fasting, and communing with God. The one time I intentionally fasted and pushed myself past my human desires, it completely changed me. And that was just one time.

Some little things:

I would go skydiving, sleep on an overnight train (preferably the Trans-Siberian Rail, which — if I go to Russia — would be very doable.), ride a tandem bike, and send up a desperate plea to J K Rowling (who probably won’t even see it) asking her to let me treat her to a cup of tea.

But, these are little things. Inconsequential things. Not big enough to be labeled as dreams, they’re just desires that would provide me with temporary happiness and then a good story.

My real goal in my last year would be to live as passionately as my weak, shy, cowardly human body allows for God’s glory. The point of this blog post is not just to dig into my dreams and last-minute pursuits. It is to show me (and you) my deepest desires — the things that are most important to me — and hopefully inspire me to pursue them as best I can right now, whether I have one year or ten years left.

So how about you? What would you do/change/think/stop doing if you had one year left to live?

CHASING SHADOWS COVER REVEAL!!!

Published July 12, 2014 by Ashley Townsend

I could not be more ecstatic, excited, and flipping out in pure elation (lot of “e” words, there) to announce that “Chasing Shadows” officially has a cover!!! EEEEEPPPP! We’re just working on a few finishing details and deciding on text, and then it’s bada-bing–off to the presses! I’m freaking out here! Which I thought was a tad obvious with all of my exclamation points, but I thought I should clarify for your benefit. ~_^

Is it weird that I want to make out with you sweet, sweet cover?

Is it weird that I want to make out with you sweet, sweet cover?

We’re almost done with the final edits, as well, and I have been smiling and crying and laughing all over again as I read it for, what? The 50th time? It still gets to me! I cannot wait to hear all of your reactions to the newest additions to our cast of Serimone characters, including (be still my heart!) Damien Lisandro, the handsome, tortured, cheeky Spaniard I’ve mentioned before. I keep getting hung-up on his scenes, reading them over and over and smiling as I pick up new inflections in his tone. Ack! I just adore him and know you all will too.

Side note(s), because I have way too many updates to give you guys:

BA-BADA-BAAAA!!!!!!!!! The “Chasing Shadows” playlist is nearly there and, if I may say so myself, spectaculaaaaar. We might even be sneaking it into the backs of the paperback copies, so keep your eyes peeled at the end of the story.

Also, our amazing web designer and digital wizard at Ink Smith Publishing, Macy, is diligently working on getting a possible cast together (yes, a Shadow and bow and forest and REAL people) for the “Chasing Shadows” trailer. Be. Still. My. Heart. So for those of you on the “Tube,” please subscribe and share Ink Smith’s YouTube page, and keep your eyes peeled for my trailer. *giggles in sheer delight* I just love saying that. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQEHbnEhJhMf1me8LPVJy9Q

Don’t forget to add “Chasing Shadows” to your Goodreads, become a fan, and post your reviews. You wouldn’t believe how helpful and encouraging your responses are. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22545313-chasing-shadows?from_search=true

And Can we all just give Roan Carter a round of slow-building applause? He has been so diligent to work with me and make this cover for the sequel absolutely everything that I envisioned, and so much more. He’s even taking the time to work up a map of Serimone and the countryside for the book. Bah! *flat-lines in joy* Be sure to check out his amazing website and illustrations. http://www.roancarter.com/

As always, stay awesome, my delightfully quirky readers!

Fangirls and Shipping and Fandoms, Oh My!

Published January 15, 2014 by Ashley Townsend

professional fangirling

Ahhh, Fandoms. Groups of fanatics and shippers who bond over a common interest in television, books, relationships in said entertainment, music, etc. There are big Fandoms, small Fandoms, serious Fandoms, and silly Fandoms, though just about anyone who is a hard-core Shipper tends to get a little carried away from time to time.  Here are a few of the things that we’re anticipating, have always loved, are Fangirling over right now (side note: refer to bottom of page for definitions), and also some nifty explanations as to what Fandoms entail.

downton abbey

We are officially Downton Abbey addicts! And I am wholly in love with…

Yes, and also the fact that the movies are so fantastic.

We love Elementary's take on Sherlock Holmes, but this is also scary accurate for a fandom's devotion.

Cannot WAIT for Shatter Me Book III, but I think Liz and Kates are fangirling a teensy bit more than me.

fandom reference

no time to explain

Fandom; noun: a group of devoted individuals engaged in a similar display of fanaticism and dedication over a specific form of entertainment (i.e. T.V., books, music, etc.). A Fandom requires full dedication and most of one’s free time. WARNING! Being involved in a Fandom can result in Pinterest boards dedicated solely to one particular interest/obsession and may end in a loss of followers due to said dedication. It may also cause blurry vision when driving, RLS (restless leg syndrome), rapid eye movement during normal sleeping hours, loss of focus, and also lack of ambition in other areas not pertaining to said interest.

shipping

Shippers; noun: fans of a form of entertainment that cling to a particular fictional relationship. Posters, Pinterest boards, blog posts, helium balloons, and a ridiculous mashing of names to create a new “power” couple pseudonym are common signs that you are a Shipper. In some instances, Shipping may cause one to lose interest in any relationships that exist outside of books or television (i.e. a relative’s engagement, wedding announcements, couples that actually exist, etc.). It is also very common for Shippers of different groups to form a strong dislike of the other group for no apparent reason, other than the fact that _____ harassed _____ before the series even began.

fangirling expl

Fangirling; verb: the action of expressing one’s obsession of a particular interest, which generally involves screaming, giggling, fainting, running, jumping, climbing, making/pinning things, etc.

Fanatic; adj: marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion (directly from Webster’s dict.). Some may refer to people expressing fanatic tendencies toward fictional characters (refer to definition of “Shipper”) as being rabid, revolutionists, extremists, mentally unstable, overly involved, etc. Someone involved in a Fandom or a Shipper will most certainly exhibit these characteristics unashamedly and will also encourage fanatical tendencies in others new to a Fandom/the Fangirling universe.
